Keep it Clean

Parents have asked about lice (piojos) and many schools have had to manage outbreaks of this little pest. Lice can only live 24 hours away from their human host. Since our helmuts are stored for longer than that between programs only the eggs attached to a human hair can cause us trouble. Eggs have been known to survive up to 10 days if the conditions are ideal. Go to this link for comprehensive and current information: http://www.headlice.org/ We at SFLC do not recommend any specific treatment but this article suggests a new method that kills both lice and eggs in 10 minutes:

Although we keep our equipment clean we suggest your child wear a light weight cap, like a baseball cap or a paper painters hat while wearing a helmut at our challenge course high events.  Ask your child not to trade or share hats or combs or brushes with anyone. These are standard precautions.
