Safety Record and Information

Injury rates of  just 4.33 injuries per million hours of ropes course program exposure compared to 4,500 injuries per million hours of soccer is how our industry compares to other activities. What has a similar injury rate to ropes course programming? Sitting in an office in the finance, insurance, and real estate fields which have an injury rate of 4.5 per million hours. Challenge Courses are safer than:

  • Running and hiking
  • Playing tennis or raquetball
  • Children’s playground equipment
  • Basketball
  • Downhill Snowskiing
  • Soccer/Futbol

Physical safety is the first and foremost concern of our entire organization. Every time there is an accident in our industry, we are saddened and upset because they are almost always the result of unprofessional design, old and untested equipment,  lack of proper facilitator training or lack of proper medical screening (mostly for cardiac risk assessment).

At SFLC, since our inception in 1997, we have had no accidents, that is right…. “zero” accidents. An accident or injury is defined as causing a person to lose a days work or a day of school due to the injury. We have had only minor scrapes, wood slivers or sore muscles from exertion. We have not been lucky. We have trained to be safe and our events are designed to ACCT standards.

We are very appreciative of the research and statistical data made available by Project Adventure. They are and have been a leader in experiential education for many years. Here is a synopsis of the results of over 20 years of collecting accident and injury data.  Safety Study
